MFA W4P312 Acting for Digital Media
Your voice work will continue by looking at further areas for voiceover, developing additional skills and experience with related forms of voiceover that are used in the industry. Topics covered in the second year will include: A review of previously experienced voice-over styles and requirements, dubbing, ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement) commercial and corporate work, audio books and podcasts. Once again you will be asked to apply a range of accents to your work. You will develop enhanced skills in audio recording and editing and will learn how to create and operate a basic home recording studio. As in Year One, the skills and knowledge developed in these sessions will be supplemented with technical skills taught in Industry Preparation II.
The aims of this module are:
- To further develop students’ understanding and application of techniques called upon when working in a voice recording studio and on microphone
- To further develop students’ awareness of the qualities of their own voice in relation to different voiceover requirements
- To expand on student’s awareness of the recording studio environment and the demands which it places on the actor
- To develop expanded understanding of related vocabulary
- To develop further understanding of the technical elements and equipment for working in a voice recording studio
- To expand on previous experience of working with a script
- To continue to develop an informed working relationship with directors and technicians
- To develop students’ use of technology to support the operation a home recording studio
By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:
- Be able to prepare for and carry out a performance role in a voice recording studio.
- Be able to competently and professionally create and adapt a performance for use in an audio production.
- Be able to communicate with other voice talent, directors, writers and technicians in appropriate vocabulary in a wide range of projects.
- Be able to take direction and apply this to your performances across multiple genres.
- Be able to creatively make use of the related technical equipment to enhance your performance and career.
