MFA W4P312 Acting for Digital Media
Building on the skill base that was developed in Year One, in the second year you will draw on your learning as you work through projects, from concept to research to rehearsal to the final data capture. This module gives you the opportunity to experience and consolidate your own process where you will be working to a brief, as you would in a professional environment to bring to life a character or a series of characters. This may involve aspects such as working with extensions, exploring a non-human characters, further action-based work and additional understanding of the technology used to capture performance. Depending on the project brief, it may present the opportunity to match performance technique to skills being developed in the Voice modules.
The aims of this module are:
- To give a professional understanding of where, as a creative, you can fit and support within the process of making a project in this medium.
- To apply all learning aspects from the varying modules into a cohesive project pipeline.
- To establish the benefits and hinderances of working within each aspect of performance capture, together and separately.
- To understand the need for this technology and how it fits specifically with creating certain projects and characters.
- To prepare students for the demands and practices they will encounter when moving into the performance capture industry.
- To enhance skills for working collaboratively within an artistic team.
By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:
- To work from a given source or direction to create a truthful and well-rounded character.
- To comfortably work within motion capture only and full performance capture as per the project and character requirements.
- To have a professional-level understanding of the technical aspects of the project process and how to support and work with all members of the production within their roles.
- To work professionally on a set, comfortably using appropriate vocabulary and to be able to translate any given direction into what is required within the performance capture volume.
- To create various, different, nuanced and thought-out characters from different backgrounds, time periods and even species.
- To fully appreciate and understand the value of working within performance capture
