Students will receive tuition that will aid them make the transition from training into working for themselves as an independent artist. Covered each year will be technical training in sound recording as well as video and sound editing. They will be guided in how to use footage captured during the course to create a showreel and a voice reel, strategies in marketing and presentation (both in person and in writing), audition technique for film, motion capture and voiceover work, as well as advice on self-tapes. They will also receive tuition about the important aspects in home-recording and creating a home studio. There will be a wide range of material covered, frequently updated to accord with developments in the performance industry. As part of the module, they will also have master classes and information sessions with working artists who will be able to supplement their core learning with additional skills as well as shedding a light on industry practices and the realities of working in related fields. Workshop sessions will be led by both the faculty team and by visiting professional in areas related to the core modules of training.
The aims of this module are:
- To provide knowledge and understanding of working within the professional industry and expectations.
- To guide your working practices with a solid understanding of correct practices and codes of conduct.
- To hone your skills to a high professional standard, ready to contribute as an artist in the industry.
- To give you confidence within your audition prep and conduct.
- To develop technical skills than can support independent learning and working, as well as self-marketing.
- To support the transition from education to employment.
- To develop understanding of your physical, vocal and mental health and have access to techniques and resources which can help you to maintain a healthy balance and support a long career.
By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:
- To feel confident in your understanding of how to set up your own home studio, as well as how to record voice demos and voice auditions.
- To feel confident in your understanding of how to edit filmed work.
- To feel confident in auditioning for a wide variety of projects across all recorded mediums.
- To gain an understanding in best codes of practice in areas that could include intimacy and content in screen work.
- To gain a more in-depth physical vocabulary of creating specific characters that may be encountered when engaged in performance capture (g. animal and creature performances)
