- Define the various roles within a stage management team and its role within the wider production department
team
- Develop an understanding of the Assistant Stage Manager role within the pre-production, rehearsal,
performance and post production periods
- Introduce the skills of research and how these methodologies support prop sourcing for a production.
- Develop an understanding of the Deputy Stage Manager role within the pre-production, rehearsal,
performance and post production periods
- Introduce the understanding of the prompt script, blocking and how a Deputy Stage Manager supports
rehearsals.
- Develop an understanding of the Stage Manager role within the pre-production, rehearsal, performance and
post production periods.
- Understand the importance of professional skills such as communication and organisational in the framework
of supporting productions.
- Develop their IT computer software skills in order to support performances
- Develop their understanding of how to cue a performance
- Develop their management skills in collaboration of supporting a production
- Understand the role of the Production Manager
- Understand the use and preparation of budgets.
- Gain an understanding of Health & Safety and the importance of risk assessments
The aims of this module are:
- To introduce students to the roles and responsibilities of the Stage Management department in the theatre production process
- To introduce basic practical theory and practice
- To introduce students to methods and processes to interpret texts and designs effectively; think analytically; research possible outcomes; communicate ideas, possible solutions, and technical information
- To introduce students to the basic core practical Stage Management skills.
- To develop methods of problem solving, negotiation, and personal management;
- To develop the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively
- To introduce students to the roles and responsibilities of the Production Manager within the theatre production process
- To introduce students to the importance of Health & Safety and risk assessment
By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to demonstrate
- An understanding of the relationship between the stage management team and the other production departments
- Relevant computer literacy
- An understanding of the role of the Stage Manager, Deputy Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Manager during the preproduction,
rehearsal, performance and post-production periods.
- An understanding of the role of the Production Manager during the pre-production, rehearsal, performance and post-production
periods.
- Awareness of Health and Safety procedures
- An understanding of gow to manage a team
- An understanding of how to work independently
