This core module, which takes place during the autumn and spring terms, is fundamental to the programme's aims to prepare students who wish to enter the next level of full-time acting or specialist training for the creative industries.The work begins with an overview of drama training provision, focussing on Drama UK accredited schools and courses.
You will learn how to source audition pieces and explore criteria for assessing their suitability. You will then begin the work of acquiring a repertoire of audition pieces specifically aimed at drama school auditions.Students will work on presentation skills for drama school auditions.
Module Aims -To provide students with:
-A good understanding of drama school audition processes
-A range of well-rehearsed and suitable audition pieces
-Knowledge and understanding of their own career aspirations with which to pursue further training options
Learning Outcomes -Students will be able to demonstrate:
-Audition potential
-Commitment, energy, positive attitude
-Creative inventiveness: fresh responses, spontaneity using a range of performance methods and materials
-Adaptability and the ability to accept notes and act upon them
-The selection of appropriate audition performance methods and materials
Module Content:
1.Students will research accredited drama schools and courses, consulting prospectuses and websites
2.Selection of audition materials: you will be encouraged to explore a wide range of plays from which to select your audition material and will learn what constitutes 'suitable' audition speeches
3.Students will have additional classes in a range of performance techniques
4.Students will continue to work on preparation of audition pieces and should by the end of the module, have a number of suitable audition pieces
Learning and Teaching Methods:
-Students work with tutors in group practical classes
-Continuous tutor feedback is integral to class work
-Additional learning is encouraged through groupdiscussion, feedback and tutor-guided independent study and research

Assessment:
-Students are continually assessed through observation of class work. The assessment is based on the extent to which they are able to demonstrate achievement of the above learning outcomes through the selection, rehearsal and performance of acting and audition speeches
-Compliance with Professional Code of Conduct
Exam format definitions
- Remote, open book: Your exam will take place remotely via an online learning platform. You may refer to any physical or electronic materials during the exam.
- In-person, open book: Your exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer to any physical materials such as paper study notes or a textbook during the exam. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
- In-person, open book (restricted): The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer only to specific physical materials such as a named textbook during the exam. Permitted materials will be specified by your department. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
- In-person, closed book: The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may not refer to any physical materials or electronic devices during the exam. There may be times when a paper dictionary,
for example, may be permitted in an otherwise closed book exam. Any exceptions will be specified by your department.
