Module Outline:
This module explores classical texts and characters. You will begin to establish approaches to textual analysis, building on the work of EA001-0-AU. You will use research, improvisation and other performance means, to assist in the creation of truthful characters
Module Aims -To provide students with the ability to:
-Better understand texts and character
-Use textual analysis as performance preparation
-Create truthful characters
Learning Outcomes -Students will be able to demonstrate:
-The development of professional potential: Discipline, extending range, focus, presence and personal contribution
-Commitment, energy and positive attitude
-Creative inventiveness
-Increased flexibility and sensitivity to change
-Increased ability to act upon notes
-Greater understanding of ensemble acting: adaptability, generous participation in all stages of work, awareness of relationships
-An awareness of own strengths and weaknesses as an actor and within a project, and ability to accept criticism and act upon it
-Greater textual comprehension and use of actors research: Understanding and interpreting language and plot
-Increased level of performance skills and skills integration.
Module Content:
1.Use of research -students will further explore the uses of research to stimulate and inform imagination and to help create the world of a play
2.They will learn the value of improvisation as an aid to the rehearsal process
3.The process and etiquette of rehearsal
Learning and Teaching Methods
-Students work with tutors in group practical classes
-Continuous tutor feedback
-Students receive written summative assessment at the end of the module
-Additional learning is encouraged through improvisation,group discussion and tutor-guided independent study

Assessment:
-Continuous assessment through observation of contribution to class work and the end of term showing. Students are assessed on the extent to which they are able to demonstrate achievement of the above learning outcomes.
-Compliance with Professional Code of Conduct
Exam format definitions
- Remote, open book: Your exam will take place remotely via an online learning platform. You may refer to any physical or electronic materials during the exam.
- In-person, open book: Your exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer to any physical materials such as paper study notes or a textbook during the exam. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
- In-person, open book (restricted): The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer only to specific physical materials such as a named textbook during the exam. Permitted materials will be specified by your department. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
- In-person, closed book: The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may not refer to any physical materials or electronic devices during the exam. There may be times when a paper dictionary,
for example, may be permitted in an otherwise closed book exam. Any exceptions will be specified by your department.
