Module description

This final year research project module is an opportunity to carry out an individual investigation on the topic of your choice relating to global sustainability.


You will use the skills and knowledge developed in the course to identify, with the guidance of an academic supervisor, a suitable question and then you will conduct a desk based (or short field based) approach to addressing your research questions.The qualitative or quantitative analysis and presentation will take the form of a report to demonstrate research, understanding and critical thinking about the literature relating to your research topic.

The aim of this module is:



  • To carry out an individual research project on a topic relating to global sustainability.

Module learning outcomes

By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:



  1. Deploy accurately established techniques of analysis and enquiry within the discipline of global sustainability.

  2. Develop a conceptual understanding that enables the student to describe and comment upon particular aspect of research within the field of global sustainability.

  3. Have an appreciation of uncertainty, ambiguity and the limits of knowledge within their chosen research topic.
