Module description

This dissertation module is the culmination of your Masters programme, where you apply the knowledge gained on your course to produce an extended independent piece of work.

Students generate an original idea, analyse literature and current knowledge and produce a coherent argument that shows their ability to relate theory to practice. The dissertation will help students develop vital skills for the workplace, as well as the ability to analyse real problems through an academic lens. Students are assigned a supervisor for the duration of their project.

Module aims

The aims of this module are:

  • Develop students' ability to critically analyse complex marketing issues. This will involve applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios and identifying new research opportunities within their chosen specialisation.

  • Equip students with the skills to conduct independent marketing research. This includes designing and executing a robust research project, analysing data, and interpreting findings to contribute original insights to the field of marketing.

Module learning outcomes

By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:

  1. Critically analyse complex marketing issues, drawing upon current research and identifying new research opportunities within their chosen specialisation.

  2. Conduct independent marketing research by designing and executing a robust methodology, analysing data, and interpreting findings to contribute to the advancement of marketing knowledge.

  3. Communicate marketing research findings effectively, by offering implications for both academic and practitioner audiences while adhering to professional formatting and referencing standards.

  4. Develop self-directed learning and research skills, by taking initiative, critical thinking, and time management throughout the dissertation process.

  5. Enhance employability in marketing by applying advanced knowledge and research skills to solve real-world marketing problems.
