Module description

This module will provide our students with a foundation in core academic skill requirements with the intention of improving the standard of work across all first-year modules. The module will also enable students to begin to focus on career planning and employability skills and establishing a career path. In addition, the module ensures that students have adequate access to their personal tutor on a regular basis.

Module aims

The primary aim of this module is to deliver a range of study skills and introduce professional development at the start of EBS students’ undergraduate programmes.

Module learning outcomes

1. To develop a knowledge and understanding of study skills in relation to the requirements of a first-year undergraduate programme.
2.To prepare students for career planning and identifying future employers, that will include:
a) To identify and understand the graduate-level roles and career paths available to business students.
b) To be able to identify their own interests, skills and competencies, relevant to their future career choice
c) To be able to identify appropriate opportunities to gain relevant work experience while at university, and to prepare effective applications for these opportunities
3.To enable students to reflect on their professional and learning development.

Learning and teaching methods

19 mainly one-hour lectures (some careers work will be 90 minutes) that comprise of teaching, interactive activities, discussion and group work.
