Module description

This module will provide our students with a foundation in our core academic skill requirements with the intention of improving the standard of work across all first-year modules.

 

The module will also enable students to begin focussing on employability skills and developing career awareness. In addition, the module links students’ individual goal setting consultations with their student advisors into a broader academic and employability context.

Module aims

The aim of this module is:



  • To deliver a range of study skills and introduce professional development at the start of Essex Business School students’ undergraduate programmes.

Module learning outcomes

By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:


  1. Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of study skills in relation to the requirements of a first-year undergraduate programme.

  2. Understand the graduate labour market and align their skill development to suitable career pathways.

  3. Use critical reflection for their professional and academic learning development.

  • 19 one- and two-hour lectures that comprise of teaching, interactive activities, discussion and group work.
