Requisites for this module
This module focuses on the management of innovation activities and how businesses may benefit from the development and application of technology. It introduces the management of innovation and technology as a multiple perspective approach, which incorporates the key areas of the business and management together.
The module provides a clear overview of the critical theories and concepts of innovation management. It also highlights the issues and factors involved in the management and development of new products, new services, new technologies, and new business models. Since managing innovation and technology is crucial to a firm's success, understanding the above factors can lead to the success of the innovative firm in the short and long-term.
The module is designed to:
1. Introduce and critically evaluate innovation management theories and concepts.
2. Demonstrate the various techniques used to manage innovation and technology successfully within a firm.
3. Demonstrate the key activities and critical decision points involved in the development of new products, services, technologies, and business models.
4. Examine the fundamental role of innovation and technology in delivering value to the business
Upon successful completion of the module, students should be able to:
1. Understand the fundamental concepts and models of innovation management and how firms can benefit from technology
2. Critically evaluate both academic theories and business practices within a diverse range of innovation case studies
3. Critically evaluate the key challenges and benefits of the management of innovation and technology within different industries including pharmaceutical, retail, automotive, and aerospace
