Module description

This module will enable students to acquire critical and transferable skills associated with the creation and management of digital entrepreneurial organisation.


The module focuses on the development process of digital ventures and their management, including idea generation, developing business models, marketing, financial, and behavioural aspects in different environments.

Module aims

The aim of this module is:



  • To enable students to obtain a critical and practical understanding of the organisational and behavioural aspects of creating and managing digital entrepreneurial ventures, from early stage to innovative growth

  • To acquire knowledge and critical understanding of relevant functional concepts, methods, and techniques and their application in an innovative context.

Module learning outcomes

By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:


1. Obtain a critical understanding of the principles of creating digital businesses, from idea generation to business model development. (A1; A2; A3; C2)


2. Understand and develop critical approaches to business planning and towards developing a business plan related to a digital enterprise (B4; C2; C3; C4; D1; D2; D3; D6)


3. Demonstrate a critical understanding of the principles of marketing and the contextual and conceptual issues related to marketing for digital enterprise (A3; B4; D1; D2);


4. Demonstrate a critical understanding of the methods and techniques used to explore different forms of funding, securing and managing money (A3; B4; D2);


5. Obtain a critical understanding of strategies of growth for digital venture (A1, A2; A3; A5; C1)

Module information

The module is practical in scope and character and is concerned with enabling students to examine and organise different forms of learning, skills development, and aspects of creating and managing digital entrepreneurial ventures. The module’s practical focus combines learning about characteristic operational issues (finance, marketing, human resources and business planning), and practical aspects of digital enterprise (such as idea generation and developing entrepreneurial business models).

Learning and teaching methods

This module will be delivered via:

  • Lectures; seminars; analysis and discussion of case studies; analysis and discussion of journal articles; class exercises; other support.

The lectures will be developed around the key concepts as mentioned in the indicative module content and will use a range of live examples and cases from business practice to demonstrate the application of theoretical concepts.

The seminars will focus extensively on business case studies and selected journal articles. Cases are drawn from a variety of sources including key business newspapers, journal articles, case studies to encourage students to analyse the creation and management of new entrepreneurial organisations and develop strategic approaches in response to the case requirements. The seminars are designed to help students to both develop and analyse case studies.

The class exercise will consist of individual and group work based on self-assessment questions and on other set tasks to provide students with the opportunity to develop critical and practical problem skills.
