Your career options

A maths degree gives you a wide range of transferable skills that employers value, including:

  • numeracy;
  • problem solving;
  • logical reasoning;
  • critical thinking; and
  • IT.

Through tackling mathematical problems, you learn to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Presentation and group-working are integrated in the specialist modules that we offer.

You can also gain specific computing skills, learning to use software such as Matlab, Maple and R, which will be of particular value if you want to pursue postgraduate study and research.

Maths Support Centre

Our Maths Support Centre is run by trained student advisers. Working at the Centre will give you key transferable skills including experience in explaining complex information in a clear and easily understandable way and customer service.
