Further Maths Support Programme

We are committed to encouraging the study of mathematics at A-level and are proud to be closely involved with the Further Maths Support Programme (FMSP). The programme supports schools and colleges at the Key Stage 4 and post-16 level to increase teacher expertise and student participation in AS and A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics.

Dr Chris Saker is the FMSP area co-ordinator for Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk. Chris organises events for school teachers and pupils around the region.

We also offer a Further Mathematics Scholarship of £250 to our students who select Essex as their firm UCAS choice and achieve an A*-B grade in Further Mathematics.

Winsten Day

Our annual Winsten Day is a free enrichment event for Year 12 pupils. It includes mathematical problem solving sessions, advice on applying to university and lectures from our academics.

Outreach

Our department is keen to work with local schools and are happy to arrange visits from our academics to help enthuse and encourage secondary students. As well as giving talks around interesting and engaging aspects of Mathematics not covered in the usual curriculum, we are eager to show the current cutting edge research taking place in the department and discuss how studying maths at any stage in education is important for a variety of roles in both the work place and higher education.

If you would like to organise a visit from us or hear more about what we can offer then please contact Joe Bailey the Outreach Officer for the department our department is keen to work with local schools and are happy to arrange visits from our academics to help enthuse and encourage secondary students.
