Andrews Jo Dr FCIPD FLF PFHEA, Assistant HR Director (Organisational Development)

Dr Jo AndrewsJo leads Organisational Development which includes the teams for Employee Engagement and Policy, Equality and Diversity and Learning and Development. She is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Chartered Fellow of CIPD and Fellow of the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education. Jo is also a qualified workplace coach and a trained mediator.




Borges Mandy, Learning and Development Manager

Mandy BorgesMandy is responsible for the University's personal and professional development programme and induction for Professional Development staff. She works mainly on development for professional services staff but also supports the development and delivery of the management programme and leadership programme.. She is an experienced facilitator and can work with departments and sections on planning, designing, and delivering their away days. She is also a qualified coach and provides coaching sessions as well as recommending internal and external coaches for executive coaching. She presents a number of workshops including Springboard, working with international students, and networking skills and is an accredited Belbin profiler.


Barry Terry, Learning and Development Manager

Terry BarryAn experienced trainer and training manager, Terry coordinates Organisational Development's leadership and management programmes and delivers a wide range of courses at the University. Terry has been coaching since 2012 and has ILM Level 3 and Level 5 qualifications in coaching. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Jo HopkinsJo provides administrative support across the team, assisting with specific projects and organising the development programme for professional services staff. She is the first point of contact for all matters relating to the Work Experience Placement Scheme.

 

 

 




Jacobs Marty, Head of TEL

Marty is the University’s Senior Education Technologist and is responsible for the successful delivery of the TEL Programme (a three-year initiative to improve the student experience at the University through the intelligent use of technology). Before moving into this new role, he worked in IT Services (IT Services) as a Learning Technologist for over 7 years. As part of the Learning Technology Team, Marty had the privilege of working on a variety of exciting elearning projects with many different departments.

Marty is a long-time advocate of Moodle and has worked with the platform for nearly 10 years now. This has involved a lot of custom course creation and technical development work. Marty has a background in animation, design and multimedia. He earned a degree in Computer Animation and Special Effects at the University of Bradford and still create short animations in his spare time.

Kearns Niki,  Education Technologist

Niki Kearns Niki is one of the Education Technologist in the Learning & Development team working alongside Marty and Simon on the TEL project, a three year initiative to improve student experience at the University through intelligent use of technology for learning and assessment. The team will be undertaking projects with departments across the University. Niki’s academic background is in Computing and Education, she is a qualified Computer Studies Teacher with experience teaching in schools, Further and Higher Education.

 

 

 

Kemp Simon, Education Technologist

Simon Kemp Simon is one of three Education Technologists working on the TEL project. He previously worked in a similar roles at City University London and the London College of Communication. Simon has experience of collaborating with course teams to implement aspects of blended learning into the curriculum and is keen to promote the use of technology to support learning.

McMellor Steve Dr PG CHEP SFHEA, Education Developer

Dr Steve McMellor

Steve is part of the academic development team and works closely with Paul, Samer, Erin and Damien, along with the wider OD team. He has particular responsibilities for implementing and supporting academic and professional services staff and GTA’s through the University's professional recognition framework, CADENZA and delivering the PG CHEP programme. He supports and advises Schools and Departments on curriculum review and development and delivery of a range of projects related to the University's Education Strategy.

Steve is an Essex alumni with an engineering background, along with a number of years’ experience teaching Ecology, Marine Biology and GIS at the University of Aberdeen and here at Essex, where he was also a Senior Research Officer in the School of Biological Sciences. Steve completed the PG CHEP programme here at Essex and has also been a previous recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award (ETA), in both the early career and experienced categories.

Andrea MunsonAndrea is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Harassment Advisory Network.







Owen Tina, Organisational Development Office Manager

Tina manages the day-to-day running of the office and the administration team, as well as being PA to the Head of Learning and Development. She oversees the workshop programmes and the larger-scale events, and has experience across a number of areas of professional services. She is the main contact for general enquiries about Learning and Development and enquiries relating to budget.


Reynolds Matthew Dr, Organisational Development Analyst

Dr Matthew Reynolds

Matthew provides data analysis and support for projects across Organisational Development and HR more widely. He has a number of years’ experience in Learning and Development and Mathematics teaching at Essex. Matthew is a qualified workplace coach and is a member of the University’s coaching Service.

Smart Paul, Head of Academic and Professional Practice

Paul leads the Cadenza and PG CHEP Programmes working closely with Ruth, Steve and Rik. He is interested in evaluation methods to measure the impact of learning on individuals and organisations. Paul sits on the board of Cadenza and the University's learning and teaching publication,In Practice. His academic background is in Modern History and Education and he is a qualified workplace coach and project manager.
