China Scholarship Council Award

2018-19 entry

In partnership with the China Scholarship Council, we offer PhD scholarships to Chinese nationals. You'll receive a tuition fee waiver and a stipend covering living costs.

You'll need to demonstrate your potential to perform outstandingly at doctoral level. Once awarded, you'll receive the scholarship for each year of your PhD (subject to satisfactory progress).

Our previous Essex-CSC Scholarship holders have studied in our School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, Department of Economics, Department of Language and Linguistics, School of Law, Department of Sociology and Essex Business School.

Eligibility

You can apply for this scholarship if you meet all of the following criteria:

  • are a Chinese national
  • meet the requirements of the China Scholarship Council (see also the CSC guide to this award)
  • are classified as an overseas student for fee purposes
  • have an offer for full-time PhD study starting in October 2018 that is either unconditional or conditional only on you passing your Masters programme

Selection will be undertaken by a panel of academic staff. If you are successful, we'll supply you with documentation with which you can apply for a China Scholarship Council award through your home institution in China. You will need to submit confirmation of the award to the China Scholarship Council before 5 April 2018 (date to be fully confirmed by CSC), together with other documents they specify.
