Doctoral training programmes offer you skills training and funding for your postgraduate research. Join one of our centres and you'll work alongside leading academics in your subject. Centres are funded by research councils or other bodies and have various names (Doctoral Training Centres, Centres for Doctoral Training and Doctoral Training Partnerships). All offer you the same benefit - gain the skills and knowledge to tackle key issues facing the world today.

Two new studentships are available for students at the Soc-B Centre for Doctoral Training in Biosocial Research. Application deadline: 4pm, Thursday 1 June 2017


Our CHASE DTP offers studentships in the arts and humanities, including art history, film, history, human rights, languages, law, linguistics, literature, theatre studies, philosophy, politics and sociology.

Eastern ARC

Eastern ARC is an interdisciplinary partnership between the Universities of Essex, East Anglia and Kent, offering studentships in quantitative social science, digital humanities and synthetic biology.

EnvEast (NERC)

Our EnvEast DTP offers funding to doctoral students working on climate, marine and atmospheric systems; biodiversity, ecosystem services and sustainable development; and natural hazards.


Our ESRC DTC studentships were offered up to 2016 across social sciences, including management, economics, health and wellbeing, psychology and sociology. SeNSS is the replacement of the ESRC DTC.


Our Centre for Doctoral Training in Intelligent Games and Games Intelligence (IGGI) offers studentships in digital game research, design and development and artificial intelligence.


Our SeNSS DTP offers studentships across thirteen different pathways and disciplines within the social sciences and will be awarding at least 35 studentships across the partner institutions in 2017.
