Consultancy services

Consultancy contracts may be negotiated with individual academic staff, or arranged through the Research and Enterprise Office.

PhD student sponsorship

Your organisation can benefit from having a doctoral student work exclusively on a major research project that is relevant and beneficial to you at a minimal cost. We offer CASE studentships (Collaborative Awards in Science and Engineering) which are in large part funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

The student is supported by both an academic and an industrial supervisor and spends at least three months in your company. Your organisation therefore benefits from significant academic input and access to the University’s resources and facilities. Your company is required to provide a cash contribution of a minimum of one third of the EPSRC contribution. This equates to a minimum cost to you of approximately £23,000 over the duration of the project (typically four years).

Knowledge transfer partnerships

Knowledge transfer partnerships are arrangements in which the funding comes from the Department of Trade and Industry and the partner company. These are negotiated through our Research and Enterprise Office who will discuss a project with a potential partner and one or more members of academic staff. If the project is to be taken further, they will also prepare the formal application for funding and, if this is successful, assist with the administration of the project.

Please feel free to begin the process by approaching a member of our staff with a relevant research interest.
