Working with Business

Expertise and consultancy

Our University offers many ways for you to access our expertise, including consultancy, collaborative and commissioned research and Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. We can introduce you to available funding opportunities to help you meet the cost of a project.

Degree Apprenticeships

Our new degree apprenticeships in Digital Technology Solutions, and Embedded Electronic Systems Design and Development, are an ideal combination of vocational and academic study. By offering an apprenticeship you can grow your talent by developing motivated, skilled, qualified and loyal employees. Best of all, government funding meets a large part of the cost of offering these apprenticeships.

Internships, work placements and graduate recruitment

Get some fresh thinking by engaging our students and graduates through internships, work placements and graduate recruitment.

Advisory Board

Our industry advisory board is instrumental in planning our courses and ensuring students graduate with relevant, real world experience.

If you are interested in joining the advisory board, please email csee-schooloffice@essex.ac.uk

Capstone Projects

With a brief to develop an idea which uses technology to solve problems, our students have the opportunity to present ideas and showcase their skills to local employers and peers at an end-of-year Open Day and Presentation.

Some students will even find themselves working on a project with a local business throughout the whole year - could it be yours?

If you have a project you would like students to work on, please email a project brief to csee-schooloffice@essex.ac.uk

Project Open Day

Showcasing our undergraduates' final year projects and their outcomes to a wide audience, our Project Open Day is a great opportunity for you to meet our students and academics, get an insight into what really goes on in our School, and start conversations with the computer scientists of the future.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships

We are the leading university in the South of England for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs.)

KTPs are part of Innovate UK’s leading flagship programme designed to help businesses to innovate by connecting them to the UK's wealth of academic resources. They develop a partnership between the business seeking expertise, a university and a high performing graduate - known as the Associate - who base themselves full time at the company.

In 2018, Professor Hani Hagras and Dr Adrian Clark were awarded the ‘Best KTP Academic Award’ at the KTP Winter Celebration from their partnership with Leonardo, a world-class advanced engineering company in the aerospace and defence sector.

We have a variety of facilities and venues available in both Colchester and Southend and can host events for up to 1,000 people.
