Clearing application

Making a Clearing application to Essex

Submitting our online clearing application form is the quickest way to discover what Essex has to offer you, but if you have any questions, email clearing@essex.ac.uk.

Already applied in Clearing this year? Don’t fill in this form if you’ve already applied during Clearing 2024 but have changed your mind about which course you’d like to study, or have some additional information you’d like to add to your application. Email us at clearing@essex.ac.uk and remember to include your Clearing reference number.

No results yet? Only complete this form if you’ve received your qualification results. If you don’t have your results yet but have questions about applying to Essex, email us at clearing@essex.ac.uk or contact us on Live Chat.

Got certificates or transcripts? You can upload these as part of your application. If you don’t have them, still apply and we’ll ask for them later if we need them.

Want to start in October 2025? Apply through UCAS when applications open in September 2024. You can also email us at admit@essex.ac.uk to discuss your options for admission in October 2025.

How we use your personal information

We will use your information in line with the statement by the government below. It explains how the data is used, who will have access and for how long. We only request information that is legitimately needed for the management of your planned programme.

How the government will use your personal information

This privacy notice is issued by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), on behalf of the Secretary of State for the Department of Education (DfE). It is to inform learners how their personal information will be used by the DfE, the ESFA (an executive agency of the DfE) and any successor bodies to these organisations. For the purposes of relevant data protection legislation, the DfE is the data controller for personal data processed by the ESFA. Your personal information is used by the DfE to exercise its functions and to meet its statutory responsibilities, including under the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 and to create and maintain a unique learner number (ULN) and a personal learning record (PLR). Your information will be securely destroyed after it is no longer required for these purposes.

Your information may be used for education, training, employment and well-being related purposes, including for research. The DfE and the European Social Fund (ESF) Managing Authority (or agents acting on their behalf) may contact you in order for them to carry out research and evaluation to inform the effectiveness of training. Your information may also be shared with other third parties for the above purposes, but only where the law allows it and the sharing is in compliance with data protection legislation.

Automatic offers

Where possible, we use automated decision making on the Clearing applications we receive in order to ensure we can respond as quickly as possible. If you have declared A-levels on your Clearing application (and GCSEs, if required for entry to the course), and these meet our automatic Clearing accept level, we may make an automated offer. If your application doesn’t meet the criteria we use to make an automated decision, your application will be considered by a member of our Admissions Team. Please don’t worry, your application will still be considered and if possible we will make you an offer. We just need to check your application in more detail, for example, if you have qualifications other than A-level qualifications. We will not reject any application through the automated process.

If you need to talk to someone further about your application, please contact clearing@essex.ac.uk.
