All Essex students can include a term or year abroad in their course. As a liberal arts student, you may have a keen interest in the history, art, literature, politics or society of a particular country or region. Our Essex Abroad team can help you plan your time overseas.

As well as being a fantastic experience, study abroad enhances your employability. A period of study abroad on your CV tells employers that you are mature, adaptable, organised and independent.

If you take our four-year BA Liberal Arts a year abroad is compulsory. You can choose which country you study in. Various European and Middle Eastern institutions offer teaching in English, or you can study in the USA, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong or Japan. If you have appropriate language skills, there are also Latin American and additional European countries where study abroad is available.
