Study in the USA

Route 66

All of our undergraduate courses include a term or year spent studying abroad, giving you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live and study in the United States and immerse yourself in its culture.

Essex has been a major teaching and research institution for American (US) studies since the University was founded in 1964. Our undergraduate single and joint-honours courses and postgraduate opportunities are built on almost fifty years’ experience in the study of the US.

Why study the United States?

The US has long been the most influential country in the world. Its politics continue to dominate the global stage and its cultural and commercial products have established themselves in every corner of our world.

These are crucial times for examining the US as a national and a global phenomenon, and our American (US) Studies courses are designed to produce the critically and socially aware experts that will be needed in the coming years to study, analyse and comment on this constantly evolving field.
