Using our services

Essex CareerHub jobs board

The publication of an opportunity on the Essex CareerHub jobs board does not constitute an endorsement of either the employer or the opportunity by the University or Careers Services. Information is provided directly by the employer and it is the responsibility of the applicant to carry out their own research and due diligence in order to satisfy themselves as to the suitability of both the opportunity and the employer for their own purposes.

Fraudulent job adverts

Through our vetting processes for the vacancies on CareerHub, we occasionally see fraudulent individuals/companies attempting to advertise employment involving illicit or illegal activities, such as money laundering, or asking applicants to provide identification, bank details or payment as part of the application. If you should notice such an advert being listed on CareerHub, please notify

Current students

All current University of Essex students are eligible to use our services.

Students at partner institutions

Students studying degrees validated by the University of Essex from partner institutions can use our self-study information resources at Colchester or Southend. If you wish to do this, you need to contact us before hand to agree when you can visit.

Please note: we don’t provide advice or guidance to students from other institutions (even where students are taking University of Essex validated degrees). The only exception to this is students studying at the Edge Hotel School, which is based on our Colchester Campus.

Essex graduates

Currently, University of Essex graduates from within the last three years can use our services. If you want to visit us, please contact us to agree arrangements in advance.

Other local graduates

Graduates from other universities who live locally to our Colchester Campus may be able to come in to use our self-study materials on a discretionary basis. If you want to visit us, please contact us to agree arrangements in advance.

Please note: we don’t provide advice or guidance to graduates from other institutions, nor access to events to workshops.

What we can provide

If you are a University of Essex student, or eligible graduate, we will support you in developing your own employability.

Employability is a partnership so we offer you opportunities to gain new experiences and skills, resources and workshops to help you reflect on your learning, and individual guidance to consider what personally would be best for you. However, you have to take responsibility for using these services to the best of your ability.

We do not act as a recruitment agency, or guarantee that you will get an internship. We will however, help you find where relevant job and internship opportunities are advertised, connect to companies and apply effectively for vacancies. So, for example, we will provide you with expert advice on where to look for job vacancies relevant to your career plans, bring employers on to campus so you can meet them, and promote paid internships just for Essex students/graduates. While we won’t write your CV for you, we will give you top quality advice on how you can improve your own CV.

Please note that we are not legally authorised to advise you on your eligibility to work in the UK, or the likelihood of an employer gaining a work permit for you.

Student Development Careers Services reserves the right to amend its terms and conditions from time to time.
