23 - 25 October 2015, Flatford Mill, Suffolk


This year's British Diatom Meeting will be held at the picturesque Field Studies Council's centre at Flatford Mill in Suffolk, in an area famous as the inspiration for Constable's The Hay Wain painting. Please join us for a weekend of talks and posters on a range of Diatom topics.

The meeting will be held from the evening of Friday 23 October to the afternoon of Sunday 25 October, and will be a friendly environment where we encourage the attendance of enthusiasts, students, researchers and academics.

  • Location

    The Flatford Mill field centre is near the Essex-Suffolk border, between Colchester and Ipswich.

    By road

    The centre can be easily reached by car from the A12, just take the turning towards East Bergholt and follow signs to Flatford Mill along the B1070.

    By train

    The nearest train station is Manningtree, 3 ½ miles away by road (or a 1 ¾ walk if you fancy some exercise). We can arrange transport from the train station, please let us know if you require this when you register.

    By bus

    There are bus services from both Colchester and Ipswich to East Bergholt.

  • Accommodation

    This year's venue is the Field Studies Council centre at Flatford Mill. The centre provides rooms from one to eight people. Single rooms are limited and while we will do our best to accommodate requests for single and twin rooms, there is no guarantee we will be able to provide them. You may be required to share rooms.

    The British Diatom meeting is a friendly and informal meeting and we would like to encourage as many people as possible to offer a talk or poster. If you would like to present please send the title and whether you wish to give a talk or present a poster to

  • Registration and cost

    The cost per person is £175 and will include two nights' accommodation and all meals from dinner on Friday to lunch on Sunday. Students may be eligible for a small refund at the end of the conference.
